"My foster dog Coconut got adopted… a few days after being adopted, she slipped out of her harness and ran to the woods.
Her adopters gave up looking and told the shelter they wanted to surrender her if she was found. So I went out searching for her myself, calling her name and hoping for the best.
Watching her come running back to me is something I’ll never forget." -
"Okay, so a lot of you have seen the video of my Foster, Coconut, and you're hoping for an update or story time.
So here are most of the questions I've been getting: Is coconut still with you? And yes, she is. I am fostering her until she finds her forever home, but it might just end up being with us.
So I have three other dogs. My dog, Chief, this was them reuniting after she had been gone for a few days. Chief was actually another foster fail. We fostered him for six months and then adopted him this past December. And even though he is so much bigger than her, they have the best time together. So for context, Chief is an 80-pound, one-year-old Great Pyrenees mix, and then Coconut is 8 pounds."

"But back to Miss Coconut, cause I know that's why you're here. So Coconut was found with two other dogs, a male named Mango, who is roughly the same age as her, and a younger female, probably about 10 months old, whose name is Pete. All three of them were severely struggling in the shelter.
So initially, I fostered Peach for a couple of weeks and she got adopted, and Mango also got a foster parent. But Coconut was left in the shelter because she was extremely reactive. She was so scared that her immediate response was to try and bite. But after spending two weeks in the shelter, she started to realize it was gonna be okay and that people were there to help her."

"So anyway, Peach got adopted, and Coconut was still at the shelter and was still struggling significantly. But I decided I really wanted to just take her home with me. I figured worst-case scenario, I could just keep her in a bathroom or a bedroom if she's still being reactive. But within a few minutes of being at my house, she became a different dog. Like, I'm talking just a complete snuggle bug. She was obsessed with all three of my dogs.
One thing really special that I wanna point out is that she is obsessed with my dog, Coopper. Copper is almost 11 years old, and he has a lot of behavioral issues, and he doesn't like other dogs a whole lot. And let me tell you, he loves her and she loves him. And if you're seeing the E collar on Copper, it's because my sweet boy is a flight risk, and it's the only way I can ensure his safety. But watching her bond with him and him just get so, so excited and playful literally melts my heart."

“But anyway, we knew from the jump Coconut had a lot of needs that needed to be met. So we made sure the adopters were very much aware of those needs. And they entirely agreed. They said it was a great fit. They said that they were used to having Chihuahuas, being needy, maybe having separation anxiety, etc. Miss Coconut does have separation anxiety. But anyway, it seemed like a perfect match.”

"Until they called four days later saying that they took her to Kroger and she slipped out of her harness. Mind you, this Kroger was literally in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by mountains. And they also said that wasn't the first time she had slipped out of her harness. At which point, they said, if she's found that they don't want her anymore, she's too needy and they wanna surrender her. The shelter message to let me know.
I was so broken. So, I drove over an hour away to go look in this area and see if I could find her. I thought it would be a lost cause, but I went regardless, and I just called her name and waited for her. And that's when I saw her leaping in the distance, turning from side to side, looking for me. I called her again, and she came running!"
-
She took Coconut back into her care and is still searching for a proper forever family for her. However, she does say that if she can't find one, Coconut can stay with her and her four dogs furever.
We love a happy ending!
